Real wood kitchens, explained.
Solid timber and veneer
Most real wood doors have a solid timber frame, usually ash or oak, around a real wood veneer centre panel. Veneer on a stable core stays flat and won’t split, while still showing real grain.
Ash or oak
Ash has a strong, open grain that shows through paint. Oak is usually left natural or lightly stained, and darkens gently over time.
Painted timber
Painted ash Shakers are the classic British kitchen. Because the paint sits on real wood, a door can be sanded and repainted years later to change the colour.
What a real wood kitchen costs
Each range on this page shows the price of the same typical 13-unit L-shaped kitchen, so you can compare them fairly. Send us your measurements and we will plan your kitchen free, with 3D images and an itemised quote.
Real timber shows natural grain, can be repainted later and ages well. If you want the look for less, painted MDF and woodgrain foil ranges are more affordable.
Will timber doors warp or split?
Doors with a veneered panel are very stable. Keep the kitchen ventilated and wipe up standing water, as with any kitchen.
Can I repaint a timber kitchen later?
Yes. Painted timber doors can be lightly sanded and repainted to refresh or change the colour.
Which ranges are solid timber?
Every range on this page has a timber frame or real wood veneer, including Mornington, Barnes, Kew, Brackenbury, Newmarket and Cambridge.
