A Shaker kitchen door is a flat centre panel set inside a plain square frame. The style comes from the Shaker communities of 19th-century America, who valued simple, well-made furniture with nothing added for show. That restraint is why Shaker kitchens suit a Victorian terrace, a barn conversion and a new build equally well. Variations on the theme include beaded frames, v-groove centre panels, slimmer "micro" frames for a more modern look, and in-frame Shaker, where the door sits inside a cabinet face frame.
Solid timber Shaker doors, usually ash or oak, show the grain through the paint and can be painted to order in almost any colour. One-piece painted doors in MDF or HDF give a smoother, more even finish at a lower price, and foil-wrapped Shakers are the most budget-friendly and easy to wipe clean. Every Shaker kitchen we sell arrives rigid, with the doors fitted and the cabinets colour-coordinated to the door where the range allows.
Cup handles and knobs keep a Shaker kitchen traditional; slim bar handles or a handleless rail make it feel contemporary. Solid oak worktops are the classic pairing, while quartz or marble-effect laminate brightens a painted Shaker.
We sell Shaker kitchens from Second Nature, Kitchen Stori, Burbidge, BA Pronto and TKC, and a typical 13-unit L-shaped Shaker kitchen starts from £2,014 with us. Timber and paint-to-order doors cost more than stocked painted colours. Send us your measurements and we will plan your Shaker kitchen free, with 3D images and an itemised quote.
A Shaker kitchen has doors with a simple square frame around a flat centre panel. The style suits almost any home, from cottages to new builds.
Painted Shaker doors give a smooth, even colour, and many ranges can be painted to order. Timber and real wood veneer doors show the grain and can be repainted later.
A Shaker door sits on the front of the cabinet. An in-frame door sits inside a face frame, so you see a frame round every door. It looks more like freestanding furniture and costs more.
A Shaker door with a narrower frame, usually 20–50mm instead of about 70–95mm. It looks more contemporary and suits handleless rails.
Foil-wrapped doors are tougher against knocks and cost less, but can’t be repainted. Painted doors give a deeper colour and can be touched up or refreshed later.
A typical 13-unit L-shaped Shaker kitchen starts from £2,014 as a guide (units only, including VAT). Each range shows the price of that same kitchen so you can compare them fairly.
