Buying guide

How to choose stainless steel kitchen sinks.

Why stainless steel?

Stainless steel is hygienic, takes boiling water, hot pans and heavy use, doesn’t chip or stain, and suits any kitchen style. It is also lighter and usually cheaper than composite or ceramic.

Steel grade and thickness

1810 Company sinks are made from 18/10 stainless steel, the grade they are named after, which has more chromium and nickel than the 18/0 steel used in some budget sinks.

Square or radius corners?

Zen15 and Zen10 bowls have tight 15mm and 10mm corners for a crisp, modern look. Luxsoplus and other radius sinks have softer corners that are a little quicker to wipe out.

Undermount, inset or flush?

Undermount sinks fit under stone, solid surface, solid timber and compact laminate worktops. Inset sinks sit on top of any worktop, including laminate. Zen I-F and Zen15 I-F can be fitted inset or flush.

Looking after it

Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, wiping along the grain. Dry it in hard water areas to stop limescale marks. Fine surface scratches are normal and blend in over time.

Common questions

Stainless steel sinks: common questions.

What does 18/10 stainless steel mean?

It is steel with about 18% chromium and 10% nickel, which makes it resistant to rust and staining and gives it a good shine. The 1810 Company takes its name from it.

Do stainless steel sinks scratch?

Everyday use leaves fine surface scratches, which blend into an even satin finish over time. A sink grid protects the bowl from heavy pans.

Are stainless steel sinks noisy?

Better sinks have sound-deadening pads or coating underneath, which takes away most of the drumming when water and pans hit the bowl. Each model’s details list what it has.

Is stainless steel better than composite?

Stainless steel is lighter, cheaper and copes with anything; composite is quieter, comes in colours and feels more solid. See our granite composite sinks.

How much is delivery?

Sinks and taps are delivered for £10 + VAT anywhere on the UK mainland. In-stock 1810 Company products are dispatched the next working day when you order by 12 noon; in-stock Second Nature sinks and taps arrive in 2–5 working days.
