Buying guide

How to choose granite composite kitchen sinks.

What is a granite composite sink?

A sink moulded mostly from crushed granite bound in acrylic resin. It resists scratches, stains and heat, and is quieter than stainless steel when you put pans down.

Colours

Second Nature Atrox, Cadit and Omni Granital sinks come in Carbon, Black, Arctic and Glacier, and Quadrix Granital in Pebble, Chocolate and Steel.

Inset or undermount

Most Granital sinks can be fitted inset on a laminate worktop or undermounted under a stone or solid surface worktop. Each model says how it fits.

Looking after it

Wipe it with warm soapy water and dry it after use, especially in hard water areas, so limescale doesn’t build up. Avoid bleach and abrasive powders.

Common questions

Composite sinks: common questions.

Are composite sinks better than stainless steel?

Neither is better for everyone. Composite is quieter, comes in colours and hides small scratches; stainless steel is lighter, cheaper and copes with anything.

Do black composite sinks show limescale?

They can show white marks in hard water areas. Drying the sink after use keeps it looking black.

Can I put a hot pan in a composite sink?

Granite composite is heat resistant, but avoid putting pans straight from the hob onto it to keep the finish at its best.

Will a composite sink chip?

It is very hard-wearing. A heavy drop onto the rim can chip it, as with ceramic.

How much is delivery?

Sinks and taps are delivered for £10 + VAT anywhere on the UK mainland. In-stock 1810 Company products are dispatched the next working day when you order by 12 noon; in-stock Second Nature sinks and taps arrive in 2–5 working days.
