Buying guide

How to choose inset kitchen sinks.

Why choose an inset sink?

Inset sinks suit every worktop, including laminate, and are the simplest to fit and to replace later. The rim covers the cut edge of the worktop, so it is sealed against water.

With or without a drainer?

A drainer gives you somewhere to stand pans and dishes to drip dry and protects the worktop. Sinks with a drainer can usually be fitted with the bowl on the left or the right (BBL or BBR in 1810 model names).

Inset-flush sinks

The 1810 Zen I-F and Zen15 I-F ranges have a thin, flat rim that can sit on the worktop or be set flush into a stone worktop for a near-seamless look.

Steel or composite?

Stainless steel is light, hygienic and easy to keep clean. Granite composite feels solid, resists scratches and heat, and comes in colours such as black, white and grey.

Check the cabinet size

Sinks with a drainer are wider than the bowl: most single bowl and drainer sinks need a 500mm or 600mm base unit under the bowl, with the drainer over the next cabinet.

Tap holes

Some inset sinks have a tap hole in the deck; others leave the tap to go through the worktop. Second Nature Line sinks are pre-drilled for the tap.

Common questions

Inset sinks: common questions.

What is an inset sink?

An inset sink, sometimes called a top-mount or drop-in sink, sits in a hole cut in the worktop with its rim resting on top.

Can I put an inset sink in a laminate worktop?

Yes. Inset sinks are the right choice for laminate worktops because the rim covers and seals the cut edge.

What do BBL and BBR mean?

In 1810 model names they say which side the bowl is on: BBL is bowl left, BBR is bowl right, with the drainer on the other side.

Does an inset sink come with a waste?

1810 Bordo, Forza, Razor10 and Zen I-F inset sinks include a 3½" basket strainer waste and concealed overflow and a Maximiser plumbing kit. Second Nature sinks come with a waste kit and mount kit.

How do I replace an old inset sink?

Measure the cut-out in your worktop and the base unit under it, then choose a sink the same size or slightly larger. A bigger sink can be fitted by enlarging the hole; a smaller one won’t cover the old cut-out.

How much is delivery?

Sinks and taps are delivered for £10 + VAT anywhere on the UK mainland. In-stock 1810 Company products are dispatched the next working day when you order by 12 noon; in-stock Second Nature sinks and taps arrive in 2–5 working days.
