Buying guide

How to choose 1.5 bowl kitchen sinks.

Why a 1.5 bowl?

You can wash up in the main bowl while the half bowl stays free for rinsing vegetables, draining pasta or filling the kettle. It is the most popular choice for a 600mm sink unit.

Which side should the half bowl go?

Most people put the half bowl on the side they rinse and stack dishes, often next to the dishwasher. 1810 names say where the big bowl is: BBR means big bowl on the right, BBL on the left.

Undermount, inset or composite?

Undermount 1.5 bowl sinks suit stone, timber and compact laminate worktops; inset 1.5 bowl sinks with a drainer suit laminate. Second Nature Atrox, Cadit and Omni are granite composite.

Cabinet size

Most 1.5 bowl sinks need a 600mm base unit; larger ones and those with a drainer need 800mm or more. Each model lists the cabinet size it needs.

Common questions

1.5 bowl sinks: common questions.

What is a 1.5 bowl sink?

A sink with one full-size bowl and one smaller half bowl, side by side, sharing one sink.

What size cabinet does a 1.5 bowl sink need?

Usually a 600mm base unit for an undermount 1.5 bowl; inset 1.5 bowl sinks with a drainer sit over a 600mm unit with the drainer over the next cabinet. Check the cabinet size on each model.

Is a 1.5 bowl sink better than a double bowl?

A 1.5 bowl fits a smaller cabinet and leaves one bowl big enough for pans. A double bowl gives two full-size bowls but needs a wider unit, typically 800mm or more.

Can I use a waste disposer with a 1.5 bowl sink?

Yes, a disposer is usually fitted to the half bowl. Check with the disposer maker that it suits a 3½" sink waste.

How much is delivery?

Sinks and taps are delivered for £10 + VAT anywhere on the UK mainland. In-stock 1810 Company products are dispatched the next working day when you order by 12 noon; in-stock Second Nature sinks and taps arrive in 2–5 working days.
