The average cost of a new kitchen in the UK is about £6,400 to £6,700 for a medium, 13-unit kitchen once worktops, appliances, a sink and tap, delivery and fitting are added. The units alone average £2,467 including VAT across the 93 rigid kitchen ranges we sell, and start from £1,962.
Every price in this guide is our own, worked out from each range’s price list in its lowest-priced colour, and includes VAT. Many retailers quote kitchen prices without VAT, so check before you compare.

A realistic total budget
For a medium kitchen in an average-priced range, this is what the whole kitchen typically comes to, including VAT. Appliances, worktops, sinks and taps are our own starting prices; fitting is the labour-only figure from MyBuilder’s cost guide (2024 figures).
| Item | Typical cost | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen units | £2,467 | 13 rigid units with doors, average-priced range |
| Worktops | from £339 | Three laminate worktop lengths (from £112.85 each); solid wood and quartz cost more |
| Appliances | from £1,342 | Integrated oven, hob, extractor, dishwasher and fridge |
| Sink and tap | from £193 | A stainless steel sink and a single-lever tap |
| Delivery | £90–£300 | Priced by postcode area (£75–£250 + VAT); Scotland on request |
| Fitting (labour only) | about £2,000 | Fitting a medium kitchen; small about £1,000, large about £3,000 |
| Total | about £6,400–£6,700 | Before plumbing, electrics, tiling, flooring or decorating |
Fitters typically charge £150 to £250 a day, and a medium kitchen of 15 to 25 units takes one fitter about 5 to 8 days, according to Trade2Base’s 2026 day-rate guide. Which?’s 2025 secret shopping found 12-unit kitchens ranging from £1,500–£2,500 at Ikea to £7,000–£9,000 at Magnet, after sale discounts.
What else to budget for
Worktops
Laminate is the cheapest, solid wood sits in the middle, and quartz costs the most because it is templated and fitted after the cabinets go in. Our worktops page has laminate, Formica and solid oak priced online, and a free quote for quartz.
Appliances, sink and tap
An integrated oven, hob, extractor, dishwasher and fridge-freezer can cost anything from under a thousand pounds to several thousand. Choosing appliances before the design is finished means the housings are the right size.
Handles, panels and plinths
Handles are priced per handle, and end panels, plinths and cornice depend on your layout. Your itemised quote lists every one, so nothing appears later.
Delivery
Kitchen cabinet delivery is priced by postcode area: £75 to £250 for most of England and Wales, with Scotland on request. Complete kitchens usually arrive in 2 to 3 weeks, and painted-to-order kitchens in 5 to 6 weeks.
Fitting
Fitting is usually the biggest cost after the kitchen itself, and it varies a lot by area and by how much else changes: plumbing, electrics, plastering, flooring and tiling. Rigid cabinets save your fitter the time they would spend building flat-pack units, so get two or three fitters to quote from the same plan.
How to keep the cost down
- Keep the layout: moving the sink, cooker or boiler adds plumbing and electrical work.
- Use fewer, wider units: one 1000mm unit costs less than two 500mm units.
- Choose a stock colour: paint-to-order colours cost more and take longer.
- Spend where you touch: soft-close drawers and a good worktop matter more than extra wall units.
- Compare like for like: same brand, range, units and VAT. We beat a like-for-like quote for the same kitchen.
