Buying guide

Choosing a pull-out larder.

Why a pull-out larder?

A pull-out larder, sometimes called a pull-out pantry, brings every shelf of a tall unit out to you, so tins and jars at the back are as easy to reach as those at the front. Nothing gets lost, and you can see everything at once.

Pick the width first

Larders are made for a set cabinet width: 300mm, 400mm, 500mm or 600mm. A 300mm larder fits a narrow gap and has the most choice; 500mm and 600mm larders hold big packs, bottles and cereal boxes side by side.

Full height or studio height?

Full-height frames suit tall units of about 1700mm to 2200mm. Studio-height frames suit shorter tall units of about 1100mm to 1600mm, such as a larder above a base drawer or under a wall unit.

Door-fixed or separate drawers?

Most pull-out larders fix to the door, so the whole larder comes out as you pull the door. Blum SPACE TOWER instead puts four or five drawers behind an ordinary larder door, each opening on its own; it is made to measure.

How much will it hold?

Larders are rated by weight. The Vauth-Sagel VS TAL Larder holds up to 80kg across its shelves and Blum SPACE TOWER drawers run on 40kg runners; each range lists its own figure.

Fitting

A larder frame fixes to the sides of the tall unit, and the door fixes to the frame. We supply the larder and your own fitter installs it, using the maker’s fitting guide where there is one.

Before you buy.

What size cabinet do I need for a pull-out larder?

Larder pull-outs are made for tall units 300mm, 400mm, 500mm or 600mm wide, and each one fits a set range of cabinet heights. Choose your width above to see every larder that fits it.

Can I fit a pull-out larder to my existing kitchen?

Often, yes, if your tall unit is the right width and height and its fixed shelves can come out. Send us the inside width, height and depth of the cabinet and we will tell you which larders fit.

What is a studio-height larder?

A shorter larder frame for tall units of about 1100mm to 1600mm high, for example a larder that sits above a drawer or below a wall unit.

Pull-out larder or Blum SPACE TOWER?

A pull-out larder slides out as one frame, so you see every shelf at once. A Blum SPACE TOWER has separate drawers behind the larder door that open one at a time, and it is made to measure, so ask us for a price.

Is a pull-out pantry the same thing?

Yes. Pull-out pantry, larder pull-out and pull-out larder unit all mean a tall cupboard whose shelves come out to you.
