Buying guide

Choosing a 300mm bin.

A slim bin for a narrow unit

A 300mm unit is the narrowest standard base unit, so most bins for it are one tall container. For separate recycling in a narrow space, the base-fixed 3 x 10 litre bin splits it three ways, and the bins that fix to the cabinet floor work behind an ordinary hinged door.

Biggest and most compartments

The largest 300mm bin we sell is the Blum LEGRABOX ECO base bin at 42 litres. For sorting, the Gollinucci base-fixed pull-out bin has three compartments (30 litres in all).

Pull-out front, hinged door or drawer?

Pull-out bins (2 here) fix to the back of a full-height pull-out door front, so the whole bin slides out on its runners when you pull the door. If your bin cupboard has a normal hinged door, choose one of the 6 bins that fix to the cabinet floor or the inside of the door; several come out automatically as the door opens. Blum’s ECO bins (1 here) sit inside a soft-close drawer, so the unit looks like any other drawer and closes quietly.

Measure inside the cabinet

Bins are made for the cabinet’s outside width, so a 300mm bin fits a 300mm unit, which is usually about 264mm wide inside once the two 18mm side panels are taken off. Check the inside depth and height too, and anything in the way such as pipes or a water filter. Each bin’s page lists its own depth and height.

Questions

Good to know.

What size bin fits a 300mm cabinet?

Any bin listed here: each one is made for a 300mm wide base unit. They hold from 16 to 42 litres, in one to three compartments.

Can I separate recycling in a 300mm unit?

Yes. 2 of these bins have two or more compartments, so general waste, recycling and food waste can each have their own.

Will it fit my kitchen?

These bins fit any standard 300mm base unit, from us or another kitchen company, as long as the inside is clear. If you are ordering a kitchen from us, tell us which bin you want and we will plan the bin unit around it.

Can I fit a pull-out bin to an existing kitchen unit?

Yes. Empty the unit, take out the shelf and measure the inside width, depth and height. If you want to keep your hinged door, choose a bin that fixes to the cabinet floor or the inside of the door (marked “Hinged cupboard door” in the table). A pull-out bin instead has the old door fixed to the bin frame with front-fixing brackets.

Do I need a pull-out door, or can I keep my hinged door?

Both work at 300mm. Bins marked “Hinged cupboard door” in the table fix to the cabinet floor or the door, so you keep your hinges; the rest fix to a pull-out door front or sit in a Blum drawer.

How do I measure for a pull-out bin?

Measure inside the cabinet: the width between the side panels (about 264mm in a 300mm unit), the depth from the back panel to the front edge, and the height from the cabinet floor to the underside of the worktop or any rail. Note anything in the way, such as pipes, a water filter or a hinge plate, then check those figures against the bin’s depth and height on its page.
